Philip G. Schumacher
Mr. Schumacher received his BA from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and has been in the field of philanthropy for over 30 years. Between 1993 and 2015 he was the executive director of Gundersen Medical Foundation, La Crosse, Wisconsin. The Foundation is responsible for the medical and health education, clinical and basic research and community outreach of Gundersen Health System. Gundersen has been a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital since 1986. In addition to his leadership role, Mr. Schumacher has extensive experience with major and planned philanthropic gifts. In 2008 he was instrumental in raising the over $1 million needed to establish the Kabara Cancer Research Institute, La Crosse Wisconsin and in 2003 the $2 needed to establish the Norma J. Vinger Center for Breast Care at Gundersen Medical Center. Mr. Schumacher is the current chair of Certified Fund Raising Executive International and has served on the organization’s executive, expansion and marketing and exam committees. He was awarded the credential of Advanced Certified Fund Raising Executive in 2009. This is the ultimate professional credential conferred by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). Mr. Schumacher served two terms on the board of AFP and is the past Vice Chair of Member Services and Treasurer of the Association. He taught in the Master of Philanthropy and Development program at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. He also is a member of the board of the Minnesota Marine Art Museum and chairs its development committee.
